In this short story, a depressed man travels to London to take his mind off recent tragic events. Wandering through Soho, he drinks himself to sleep every night since he's almost lost the desire to live. When he meets a curious stranger named Rudolf Gortz who invites him to meet his friends, his life takes a sharp turn and he soon realizes something isn't quite right when the group of enigmatic Londoners invite him to a spectacular dinner and then offer to show him a side of London, hidden deep in its underground tunnels, that most tourists never see; wondrous and cryptic but with a sinister side.
Who are these strangers? Are they human or something else entirely? Will the unsuspecting traveler from the U.S. get to the bottom of these mysteries before his time runs out? Or does he even care anymore, so far gone in depression and helplessness?
'The Darkness" is a suspenseful sci-fi thriller. It's a quick and exciting read that deals with finding purpose in life, coping with grief and loss and poses the question "What would you do if offered an extraordinary, god-like power?"
